Sam is a research and evaluation expert with experience in the charity sector. Currently working within the Insights team at Youth Music, he collects and analyses data from the grassroots music network. These findings are used to evaluate impact and reinforce evidence-led decision making, with the aim of supporting marginalised young people to make and monetise music.

Sam specialises in issues of socioeconomic inequality and is undertaking a PhD at Goldsmiths, University of London. His thesis explores the impact of generative artificial intelligence on young working-class musicians in the UK. Alongside completing the PhD, he works as a Brilliant Club Tutor, working with state school pupils aged 8-18 to develop their knowledge and grow confidence in attending university.

He is also a passionate campaigner for the real Living Wage movement, regularly speaking at events and supporting a local action group with the aim of ending low and unpaid work.
