New analysis by The Equality Trust of ONS statistics published today has found that the top fifth of inheritors received over 142 times more than the bottom fifth from 2008-10. ONS statistics also revealed that:

• Just 20% of inheritors receive 76% of the total inheritance given, worth £57 billion
• Half of inheritors received less than £10,000, while one in 10 got £125,000 or more
• In 2008-10 around 1.6 million received an inheritance of £1,000 or more, totalling £75 billion.
