Equal Pay Alliance Calls for Action on Pay Gaps
Today the Equal Pay Alliance has written to the government ministers and leaders within our political parties responsible for equalities to call for real action to close the pay gaps for racialised people, women, and people with disabilities.
At the current rate of progress, it will take hundreds of years to reach a point where people are paid equally for equal work. Introducing manadatory gender pay gap reporting has been a welcome step forward – but we know they won’t close without action, let alone the disability and ethnicity pay gaps, where little data exists.
It is possible to close pay gaps quickly with sufficient will. This government has an opportunity to massively widen everyone’s access to workplaces and ensure that we are all paid equally for equal work.
