Joint Submission to the Scottish Government’s Consultation on the Introduction of the Socio-Economic Duty in Scotland

In October 2016, the Scottish Government announced that it intended to introduce the socio-economic duty contained in Section 1 of the Equality Act 2010. In July 2017, the Scottish Government reiterated this commitment and launched an open consultation. At the end of this process, Scotland will become the first part of the UK to bring the socio-economic equality duty to life.

The Equality Trust welcomes this important development, and has now submitted a joint response to the consultation with Just Fair, which can be found here.

The Equality Trust is a registered charity that works to improve the quality of life in the UK by reducing economic inequality. UK income inequality is among the highest in the developed world and evidence shows that this results in poorer mental and physical health, higher violent crime, poorer educational outcomes and lower levels of trust. Inequality affects us all. For further comments or to arrange an interview, contact info@equalitytrust.org.uk
