Stories from the equality frontline: contribute your voice to our latest film

We’re looking for a diverse range of activists from across the UK to be a part of a short film to put pressure on our national leaders as they review progress on reducing inequality at the UN’s High-Level Political Forum (HLPF) this July.

Can you help? Do you have a story of your local inequality campaigns? If you’re interested in taking part, please fill in our online form by Friday 7th June 2019.

BACKGROUND

This year, the UN will bring together national leaders to review global progress on the Sustainable Development Goals, including SDG 10, which is to reduce inequality within and between countries. The UK will also be presenting its Voluntary National Review, which evaluates the country’s progress towards all 17 global goals.

WHAT ARE WE DOING?

We are concerned about the UK’s progress towards achieving SDG 10 both domestically and in its global contribution through international development and overseas aid.

We’re producing a short film alongside the Fight Inequality Alliance, featuring frontline inequality organisers sharing their stories and raising issues and solutions to extreme inequality in the UK. Activists in Kenya, Mexico and the Philippines will also be talking about how they organise in their communities; sharing their stories, concerns and solutions to the issue of rising inequality both within their countries and between countries internationally.

The film will be screened at events coinciding with the UN HLPF meetings and shared online via The Equality Trust and globally on social media.

YOUR CONTRIBUTION

You will be telling the story of how you/your community are affected by inequality, how people are campaigning to change this and providing a more radical narrative about how change will happen.
By contributing to the film, you would be expected to explore the following topics:

  • What is rising inequality like? How is it experienced (by yourself and people you know)? What do you think the causes are? Do you have any stories that highlight this well?

  • How big the gap is between the 1% and the rest of society and why that matters to you and your community?

  • How are people coming together to create a bigger change and why?

  • What do you want the government to do and what are they not doing now?

Do you have a story to contribute? Please fill in our online form.

Filming will take place on the week commencing 17th June 2019.

You may be required to travel to a nearby location for the filming. Any travel and subsistence costs will be reimbursed by The Equality Trust.
