
Julie is Head of Research at Health Sciences University, where she is responsible for providing strategic leadership and operational management for research. She has worked in the higher education sector since 2003. Julie is interested in equality, diversity and inclusion (EDI) and led the Athena Swan work at Bournemouth University for six years. She is a member of numerous national committees, including the UK Panel for the HR Excellence in Research Award and the EDI Advisory Group for the Association of Research Managers and Administrators.
Julie has an MA in Human Resource Management and a PhD in Sociology. Her doctoral research explored how the class background and perceived gender of job applicants influenced shortlisting decisions for academic roles in higher education.
